One Room Challenge: Fall 2019 Week 3

Whew, week 3 already! This week has been full of several small projects, but still important. Its like the icing on the cake. We still have one large project to get done, the headboard, but everything else is finishing touches. Oh, and I am still on the hunt for the perfect rug. Rugs always take me forever to decide on.

Recap of week 2, which was really more like the beginning of week three, I installed wallpaper, with the help of my MIL, and painted the ceiling black. If you missed week 2 updates you can see week 2 updates here.

Now for week 3. The art work that I ordered from Lindsey Letter Co. arrived and can I say I feel really blessed to have her work in my home. If you aren't familiar with her work go check it out here. I am also happy that a purchase from her small shop supports her family, who really needs all the love and support right now after their little girl suffered a traumatic brain injury. I chose to buy prints of her work since I already had frames. Here is a little sneak peek of the frames with art and photos that will be displayed around and above our bed. I have to say this is my favorite part of the room.

After painting the ceiling, and not so neatly the corners, I decided to add some trim to finish it off and give it a cleaner look. So off to Home Depot I went to buy trim. I chose an MDF material that was already primed in 8' lengths. My main reason for choosing this product was the length, I needed it to fit in my vehicle and the solid pine trim was too long. The paint I used was the same paint I used on the ceiling, Black by Behr in their Marquee line. I considered white, but didn't have paint to match the other trim and I wanted to do something different than what I have seen before, so I went with black. All the trim is painted and ready to be cut and installed.

My next project was redoing an old table for the seating area. The table belonged to my husbands Great Grandfather, and while its not a unique table, it does hold sentimental value so we wanted to hang on to it, thus the makeover. While I would have liked to strip the varnish and stain off down to the natural wood, the table has a lot of nooks and I knew that I would never get it all off. So, I painted the table with Rustoleum Chalk Spray paint in charcoal. No stripping, sanding or priming required. I did give it a thorough cleaning with Thieves Household Cleaner before spraying it. To finish it off I will seal with a furniture wax by Minwax and top it with a marble top, which is actually a piece of marble floor tile.

Lastly, the bed frame arrived and we put it together ASAP. It's so nice to no longer be sleeping on a mattress on the floor. I feel like an ADULT again, lol. I highly recommend this bed frame. We have one in the girls room of J's bed and they are sturdy frames and super easy to assemble. Took my husband less than 30 minutes to put our king size bed frame together. If you're in the market for a new frame, check out Zinus. I also found out that they sell sofas and mattresses! We will be transforming the headboard by adding a wood plank look to it. Here is what it looks like as of now. Like I said a huge upgrade from the floor, lol!

Thats it for week three. Week 4 will include finishing the trim, installing another curtain rod, finishing the side table, installing the trim on the ceiling and shopping for some accessories. Fingers crossed by week 5 we have a headboard.

Have a blessed day
